We Must Make a Choice!

Chosen by God!

We should expect persecution when we live among people who are hostile toward anyone who worships the one true God. In our own culture today, we can be true to our faith and avoid any form of compromise by settling in our minds who we will serve. I think Joshua said it best:

“But if it doesn’t please you to worship Yahweh, choose for yourselves today the one you will worship: the gods your fathers worshiped beyond the Euphrates River or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. As for me and my family, we will worship Yahweh.” (Joshua 24:15 HCSB)

As believers we must make a determination of who we are going to serve. We can’t serve the world and God because there is enmity between a fallen world and God. Those who believe God have peace with Him and are His children. We then have enmity with the world when they oppose the laws of God. Throughout our lifetime we will find ourselves having to make choices – choices that conflict with God. It’s during these times that it is clear to the world and God who we serve.

Serving God is not going to be easy. Choosing God in difficult situations will cost us something. We can make this choice when we have truly determined where our hearts are anchored, where we have aligned ourselves. While we are in this world, it is not our final destination and we must live with eternity in mind. Even in our difficult and possibly life threatening choices, God gives us the strength to stand in our convictions. This is way we must spend time in His Presence and in His Word. This is where we gain our strength and courage.

Ultimately, for believers, in comes down to this:

But Peter and the apostles replied, “We must obey God rather than men.” (Acts 5:29 HCSB)
