Chosen by God!
We should do what we can to avoid arguments and quarrels. We must develop the ability to respond gently to those who disagree with us.
“A gentle answer turns away anger, but a harsh word stirs up wrath.” (Proverbs 15:1 HCSB)
It’s only through gentleness that others will be inclined to listen. By avoiding arguments and quarrels and responding in love we give opportunity for the Holy Spirit to work through our daily encounters in life. Jesus commanded us to love one another and said they would know we were His disciples by our love for one another.
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:34-35 NKJV)
Love changes everything. It defuses arguments and conflicts, and causes us to respond with gentleness. Love also gives us a different, a godly, perspective of the situation.
“Hatred stirs up strife, But love covers and overwhelms all transgressions [forgiving and overlooking another’s faults].” (Proverbs 10:12 AMP)
When we can love as Jesus commanded we can develop the ability to respond to those who disagree with us in gentleness. You see our response won’t be about proving a point, trying to win, but on a willingness to listen and learn. Love causes us to respond with kindness and unselfishly.
“Above all, have fervent and unfailing love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins [it overlooks unkindness and unselfishly seeks the best for others].” (I Peter 4:8 AMP)
