Chosen by God!

When contemplating marriage, every man should consider inner qualities in a woman as more important than external beauty.

“Your beauty should not consist of outward things like elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold ornaments or fine clothes. Instead, it should consist of what is inside the heart with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very valuable in God’s eyes.” (I Peter 3:3-4 HCSB)

In time external beauty will change, whereas the inner beauty, the character of a person, when it’s based on godly wisdom, will only become stronger in time.

“Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord will be praised. “ (Proverbs 31:30 HCSB)

Paul encourages older women to teach the younger women, focusing on character building so that the message of God would not be slandered, in Titus 2:3-5:

“In the same way, older women are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not addicted too much wine. They are to teach what is good, so they may encourage the young women to love their husbands and to love their children, to be self-controlled, pure, homemakers, kind, and submissive to their husbands, so that God’s message will not be slandered.”

Peter, Paul, and Lemuel all defined real beauty and emphasized the importance on cultivating inner beauty based on the unchanging Word of God. It’s a timely reminder that what’s on the inside of us is more important than how we look. When what’s in us is based on a life controlled by the Holy Spirit then we are truly beautiful.
