Chosen by God!
“Joyful are those who obey his laws and search for him with all their hearts.” (Psalm 119:2 NLT)
Since God still speaks today through the authors of Scripture, we should devote ourselves to studying the Word of God in order to discern His will for our lives.
“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (II Timothy 3:16-17 NKJV)
Some of the practical benefits of diligently studying Scriptures are drawing closer to God, learning what pleases Him, learning to obey Him, learning how to live, learning how to walk in our purpose, learning all we need to live victoriously in this life and a guarantee of eternal life. There’s so much to be gained by studying the Word! Time in God’s Word is never wasted.
“I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” (Psalm 119:11 NLT)
Additionally, reading God’s Word is the basis for hearing God’s voice in our lives. The Holy Spirit guides us based on the Word.
“When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth. For He will not speak on His own, but He will speak whatever He hears. He will also declare to you what is to come.” (John 16:13 HCSB)
Whenever we read the Word we should ask the Author of the Word to grant us revelation and understanding so we can apply the Word to our lives.
“Open my eyes, that I may see Wondrous things from Your law.” (Psalm 119:18 NKJV)
“Help me understand the meaning of your commandments, and I will meditate on your wonderful deeds. Keep me from lying to myself; give me the privilege of knowing your instructions.” (Psalm 119:27, 29 NLT)
