Chosen by God!
When we are falsely accused, we should first and foremost allow God to defend us. Our humanness wants to defend and explain. The reality is that when we’re falsely accused the accuser isn’t going to listen to reason. If they could reason they wouldn’t be accusing. What I’ve learned just living life is to look at the person and ask what is hurting them so much that attacking me brings them some form of satisfaction. I remember saying once, they must be hurting really bad to do this.
At the heart of accusation you will find hurt, insecurity, loneliness, a poor self-image, and a need to be loved. If we could react in love we could diffuse pain all around.
I’m not going to say it’s easy to keep quiet in this process because it’s not, at least not for me. It’s been an area of opportunity for me for sure. Yet I’ve learned to keep quiet and sometimes to walk away.
When being accused we can sometimes focus so much on our response/defense that we might miss an opportunity to bring reconciliation. The Word tells us that blessed are the peacemakers!
One thing I’ve learned to do is filter people’s words and actions by the eight characteristics in Philippians 4:8.
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” (Philippians 4:8 ESV)
I ask myself if what’s being said is, true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, praiseworthy? That’s the barometer I try to apply to hurting conversations and actions. Just because someone said it doesn’t mean I have to accept it as my reality. If there’s truth in it then I need my Abba Father to help me process it and make any necessary changes.
When our actions align with God’s Word then we must allow God to defend us. In most cases only He can vindicate us! If it’s a legal issue then we can use the legal system to bring justice.
