Rely on God's Strength

Chosen by God!

“My soul weeps, and trouble weighs me down; give me strength so I can stand according to Your word.” (Psalm 119:28 The Voice)

My soul weeps speaks to deep felt sorrow, anguish, grief, even hopelessness layered into helplessness. It’s a burden that can’t be carried. Weeping in the Hebrew is dâlaph which means drop through, melt, to pour out. I picture the sorrow being overwhelming, overflowing to the point it can’t be contained.

At this point the writer remembers he doesn’t have to bear this on his own. He can ask God to help him, strengthen him. And he asks according to God’s Word. He’s reminding God of His promise and because of past relationship he’s convinced that God will show up.

“Then said the Lord to me, You have seen well, for I am alert and active, watching over My word to perform it.” (Jeremiah 1:12 AMPC)

The Hebrew word for strengthen is qûwm which means to abide, continue, endure, confirm, continue, endure, enjoin, get up make good hold, help, lift up, rise up again, rise up against, stablish, make to stand up, stir up, succeed.

There will be times that my soul will weep and troubles will weigh me down. It may even seem hopeless and in my own eyesight, and insight, that may be true. However, I’m reminded that I don’t have to lean only on my strength. I have God’s strength to lean on.

“I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me [I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me; I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency].” (Philippians 4:13 AMPC)

When I read this Scripture I envision a blood transfusion. I know there is life in blood and when someone is given a transfusion it’s usually to save their life. That’s what the blood of Jesus did for us – saved our lives. He didn’t save us to have us fail.

I can rely on His strength. Mine will never be sufficient. His will always be sufficient.

Faith Confession:

Lord thank You for this reminder that I don’t have to face anything alone. Help to remember in the midst of troubling situations, when I can’t see my way out, that You are there. Let me never forget that no matter what I face I can do all things because Christ strengthens and empowers me. Thank You Abba Father for Your unconditional love just for me. Let me never forget this promise in Your Word:

“…For He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]” (Hebrews 13:5b AMPC)
