Chosen by God!
"But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself." (Daniel 1:8 NKJV)
What stands out to me is - Daniel purposed in his heart. This means he made a decision about what he was going to do no matter what his circumstances said. You would need to read the previous 7 verses to fully understand the enormity of his stance.
Purpose is defined as:
Tat which a person sets before himself as an object to be reached or accomplished; the end or aim to which the view is directed in any plan, measure or exertion; intention; design; to determine on some end or object to be accomplished (Noah Webster 1828 Dictionary)
Sometimes we need to say no to something in order to say yes to God. Even good things can be distractions if it is not your assignment. We must make sure every choice, no matter how small, puts us closer to either walking in, or continuing to walk in, our purpose. Don't mistake busy for productive. Remember, God isn't impressed or moved by what we do for Him when what we are doing is not anchored in obedience to Him!
Know this, everyone is not going to be happy about you walking in your purpose. Don't let that distract you. Stay the course.
Let this be your answer:
"We must obey God rather than men." (Acts 5:29b AMPC)
What, or who, do you need to say no to in order to fully pursue the purpose and potential God has ordained for your life?
Faith Confession:
I have purposed in my heart to live a life of purpose by maximizing my potential for Your glory, Abba Father.
