Chosen by God!
“Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” (I Thessalonians 5:18 NLT)
“Thank the Lord for all the glorious things he does; proclaim them to the nations.” (Psalm 105:1 TLB)
We can develop of thankfulness in our worship, both personally and corporately through our relationship/fellowship with God. The more time we spend with Him the more thankful we become. It’s when we recognize His gift of love in Jesus Christ and truly understand Calvary, that we’re able to be grateful for the price He paid to redeem us. I think it’s when we count the cost, paid in our stead, that we’re able to give thanks. When we have intimate fellowship with God, we see His heart and come to love Him more and more, thankfulness comes naturally.
Having said that I must address the fact that we can be selfish, have a spirit of entitlement that can cause us to be ungrateful. However, I believe, that when we come to Jesus, accepting Him as Savior, and making Him Lord of our lives transformation begins. It’s during this time of transformation that thankfulness becomes a part of our hearts. After all, we’re made in His image and likeness so, with the help of the Holy Spirit we can give thanks.
This is a prayer I share frequently to prepare our hearts for corporate praise and worship:
Father, prepare my heart to worship and praise You in the fellowship of my Church family. Forgive me for having a careless attitude about coming into Your House. Let me always remember the price You paid to give me freedom. I love You, Abba Father, and time in Your presence, at home, work, school, Church, or wherever I may be, is my heart’s desire.
Lord, may my life reflect a lifestyle of praise to You. Make my heart be confident in You so that I may boldly sing Your praises. Allow me to tell of Your greatness to all with whom I come in contact. Teach me to obey You so that I might become a reflection of Your love, grace, and mercy to others. I praise You, in advance, for the victory. I pray this prayer in faith and on the authority of the Name of Jesus. Amen.
Spend time today thinking about all of the things you have to be thankful for then thank God for them. If you make this a daily habit thankfulness will become a lifestyle.
“O give thanks to the Lord, call on His name; make known His doings among the peoples!” (I Chronicles 16:8 AMPC)
