Chosen by God!
We are to proclaim the message that Jesus Christ came to be the Savior for all people, regardless of race, color, or creed. Jesus demonstrated that the miracles He did were designed to help the apostles grow spiritually as much as they were to meet the needs of hungry people. Everything Jesus did had purpose and was preparation for His apostles to succeed in spreading the Gospel after He left the world.
"When Jesus looked out and saw that a large crowd had arrived, he said to Philip, “Where can we buy bread to feed these people?” He said this to stretch Philip’s faith. He already knew what he was going to do.” (John 6:5-6 MSG)
In this miracle Jesus not only taught about compassion for people. He taught the apostles to meet the people’s needs. Without compassion you can’t see their needs. He was also teaching them to see beyond their abilities to provide for others and look to God’s abilities for provision.
In this miracle of feeding the 4,000, (Matthew 15:29-39), and in the miracle of feeding 5,000, (Luke 9:10-17), Jesus involved the apostles by asking them what to do with the crowd and what did they have available? In these miracles Jesus provided for the people while showing the apostles where provision comes from, who to look to, who to trust, and He showed them that it was God that meets the needs of people through people. Let this lesson be a reminder that when it looks like we can’t to remember that God can and He will when we ask for His help according to His Word. Our part is to ask in faith and be living a life of obedience to Him. We must be led by our compassion for others to lead us to the Father on their behalf.
