Chosen by God!
“But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.” (Daniel 1:8 NKJV)
Decisions made in the head are usually spur of the moment, with little insight, based on emotions/feelings, and are totally self-dependent. Decisions made in the heart are usually done with conviction, seeking God, standing on His Word, and being totally dependent on God.
Heart decisions will usually last because you’re sold out, committed, to it. When we made a heart decision to accept Jesus as the Son of God, Who died for our sins, rose again, and is seated on the right hand of the Father, forever to make intercession for us, it was made with our hearts. Nothing or no one can talk us out of this decision and we continue to stand in faith no matter what happens. When a decision is made with our heads, at the first sign of trouble, discomfort, or dis-ease, we can be talked out of it or walk away from it.
I see head decisions as good ideas, in the moment, that won’t stand in the face of conflict. I see heart decisions as convictions rooted in Truth that we’ll take a stand for no matter what obstacles we face. In heart decisions we have the power of the Holy Spirit to empower us to stand. We don’t stand alone.
What we determine, what's important to us, is what we have because that is what we spend time and effort on. I love that Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself. That's commitment! He could have reasoned that he was a captive, this was all they had to eat, and so much more. Instead he determined to live what he believed in adverse circumstances. This is a clear reminder for us to be who we are regardless of where we are.
