The Cost of Unforgiveness

Chosen by God!

Just wondering about people who profess to be Christians but don't forgive or try for reconciliation. Paul was always about restoration. Disassociation came after all avenues were exhausted and SIN prevailed - not misunderstandings, hurt feelings, or whatever emotion fuels unforgiveness!

What we, believers, need to understand is forgiveness does not mean agreement or acceptance of the behavior that caused the problem. It doesn't even mean the relationship will look like it did. What it means is  we choose unity in the body of Christ and we choose love over our feelings. If you can't forgive, you can't, and I will say this boldly, you can't and don't, love! Love requires forgiveness and forgiveness requires love.

If you can't, or just plain won't, forgive you might need to reassess your walk.

Jesus forgives us when we ask for forgiveness. Jesus doesn't hold our offenses against us. Jesus doesn't give up on us. Jesus doesn't throw us away! Jesus always loves us! Aren't you glad Jesus doesn't treat us like we treat one another?

“In prayer there is a connection between what God does and what you do. You can't get forgiveness from God, for instance, without also forgiving others. If you refuse to do your part, you cut yourself off from God's part.” (Matthew 6:14-15 MSG)

Don’t break the connection of intimacy with God, walking in His blessings, hearing His voice through unforgiveness. Choose forgiveness, even if the other person is in the wrong or doesn’t accept your apology. Why? You’ve been obedient to God, and He will honor that.

Make it right with your brother/sister first, then you can come boldly to the throne and receive God’s grace, mercy, and forgiveness. It’s not easy, but it is required by God. Be assured that what God requires us to do, He also equips us to do.

If we want God's forgiveness then we must extend forgiveness to others.

"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (I John 1:9 NKJV)

Disclaimer: I didn't say this, Jesus did. And yes, I am aligning myself with Him. I choose forgives first and always. I'm responsible for my actions and will not allow how others treat me determine how I will treat them. The Bible is my blueprint.
