Chosen by God!
When we worship God, we should acknowledge that He knows everything about us—past, present, and future.
“Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I stand up; You understand my thoughts from far away. Where can I go to escape Your Spirit? Where can I flee from Your presence?” (Psalm 139:1-2, 7 HCSB)
These verses of Scripture remind us that God knows everything about us and He knows exactly where we are physically and spiritually. We can’t hide any part of us from God.
The reason He knows us so intimately is because He created us.
“For it was You who created my inward parts; You knit me together in my mother’s womb.” (Psalm 139:13 HCSB)
And it is for this reasons that we can worship God!
“I will praise You because I have been remarkably and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful, and I know this very well.” (Psalm 139:14 HCSB)
Seeing ourselves as God sees us is key to worship and to walking in healthy relationships. When we know that God sees us as fearfully and wonderfully made, that His works are wonderful, that means we can celebrate others and it takes absolutely nothing away from us! Celebrating others only causes us to grow and become more like Jesus. He knew who He was and because of that He could, and did, build others up.
David’s prayer in Psalm 139:23-24, “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my concerns. See if there is any offensive way in me; lead me in the everlasting way,” reminds us that we should ask God to search our hearts regularly. We do this to remain in fellowship with God and with believers. If we don’t deal with offensive ways then we become stumbling blocks to ourselves, and in our relationships with God and believers. It’s only through submitting our heart’s to God’s inspection that we can become more like Him. It’s in these moments that He will point out areas that need healing and anything that doesn’t look like Him or bring glory to Him.
Because He created us and knows us intimately only He can show us – us! Only He can change our hearts which ultimately change us and how we relate to others.
