Chosen by God!
We must follow the leadership of the Holy Spirit rather than our worldly desires. Paul clearly outlines the works of the flesh and what walking in the fruit of the Spirit is, making it easy for us to recognize exactly what our behavior reflects. It is also an outline of what pleases God and what doesn’t. In Proverbs we are shown the lifestyle of the adulterous woman which reflects worldly wisdom versus godly wisdom reflected by Lady Wisdom.
In both of these examples from the Old and New Testaments we are given guidelines on how to live, what pleases God, and the importance of our choices. When given all of the information that the Bible provides we are to choose living in the Spirit and Lady Wisdom. Through the Holy Spirit we are able to avoid the works of the flesh and walk in the fruit of the Spirit. We can also choose godly wisdom over worldly wisdom. Everything is laid out in the Word, our blueprint for living a life that not only pleases God but reflects His character.
We must follow the leadership of the Holy Spirit rather than our worldly desires.
Paul tells us that:
“The works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, moral impurity, promiscuity, idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and anything similar. I tell you about these things in advance—as I told you before—that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5:19-21 HCSB)
Those works of the flesh (Galatians 5:19-21) are contrasted with the 9 fruit of the Spirit (5:22-23).
“Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, moral impurity, promiscuity, idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and anything similar. I tell you about these things in advance—as I told you before—that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law. (Galatians 5:19-23 HCSB)
The adulterous woman, who seduces (Proverbs 7:6-27) is contrasted with Lady Wisdom, who makes her appeal for wisdom by conducting herself with wisdom (8:1-25). The point is that who we know, and follow, will be evident in our behavior. Ultimately, the goal is to choose godly wisdom.
