Accountability

Chosen by God!

To reflect Christian maturity, we must not be addicted to anything that interferes with clear thinking and godly living. The Christian walk is about connection. We are the Body of Christ and we need each other. Jesus never meant for us to live this life alone.

"Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken." (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 NLT)

When we become members of the Body of Christ we become accountable to one another and responsible for one another. Accountability begins with submission to Christ and to each other in the Body of Christ.

“And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.” (Ephesians 5:21 NLT)

Submission is the foundation for accountability. To allow someone to hold you accountable you must be willing, able, to submit to their counsel based on the Word of God. Accountability begins with a relationship that is based on Christ and a belief that the person(s) involved love you, and want good for you.

Without accountability it is easy to submit to “the sin which so easily ensnares us.” (Hebrews 12:1 NKJV) Accountability gives us the endurance to finish our race.

When faced with various addictions accountability can help us choose the right path. It can also help in overcoming those addictions.
