Chosen by God!
To be successful, parents must not only teach God’s truth to their children but be on guard against failing to practice what they teach. Children learn more by what they see their parents do than by what they hear their parents say. In training our children, and setting an example, it is important that we heed Paul’s warning regarding temptation AND claim the promise outlined in 1st Corinthians 10:13 AMP:
“No temptation [regardless of its source] has overtaken or enticed you that is not common to human experience [nor is any temptation unusual or beyond human resistance]; but God is faithful [to His word—He is compassionate and trustworthy], and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability [to resist], but along with the temptation He [has in the past and is now and] will [always] provide the way out as well, so that you will be able to endure it [without yielding, and will overcome temptation with joy].”
This Scripture is a reminder that we will always face temptation in this life AND with every temptation there is always a way of escape. God will always show us a way out when we turn to Him. This is also a reminder that as children of God we don’t face anything alone. We have immediate resources in us since the Holy Spirit resides in us. We don’t have to yield to the temptations of life.
“God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else. Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away.” (James 1:12-14 NLT)
When children are raised with sound biblical principles that encourage their own personal relationship with God they are better equipped to face the temptations, and challenges, in life.
“Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Provers 22:6 NKJV)
“Fathers, don’t stir up anger in your children, but bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.” (Ephesians 6:4 HCSB)
