Chosen by God!
We are not to seek wisdom that is only focused on life on earth but wisdom that prepares us for eternal life and heavenly rewards. We must learn to have an eternal perspective on everything we say and do. The question I am learning to ask myself is, “Will this matter in eternity?” While I’m not advocating that we don’t enjoy life I am advocating that we live a balanced life that is focused on pleasing God first and foremost. When this is our heart goal then everything else will fall into place.
“But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also.” (Matthew 6:33 AMP)
It can be easy to seek wisdom from people rather than seek God and His wisdom. The pull towards that can be the result of living in a society that moves fast and makes decisions even faster. Godly wisdom is based on seeking God. It is based on pleasing God and loving others.
This is what godly wisdom looks like and what all believer should strive to walk in:
“If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom. But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere. And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.” (James 3:13, 17-18 NLT)
Earthly wisdom is based in fleshly satisfaction and self-centeredness. It is not concerned about others. And sadly, even with Jesus’ example of what true leadership looks like, earthly wisdom is not concerned about serving, or celebrating, others.
This is what earthly wisdom looks like and what all believers should avoid at all costs:
“But if you are bitterly jealous and there is selfish ambition in your heart, don’t cover up the truth with boasting and lying. For jealousy and selfishness are not God’s kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and demonic. For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind. (James 3:14-15 NLT)
All believers can walk in godly wisdom by allowing the Holy Spirit to produce His fruit in us.
“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!” (Galatians 5:22-23 NLT)
When we seek godly wisdom and walk in it we can be assured of godly results, eternal results that build heavenly rewards.
