Chosen by God!
“Consider it nothing but joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you fall into various trials. Be assured that the testing of your faith [through experience] produces endurance [leading to spiritual maturity, and inner peace].” (James 1:2-3 AMP)
I can't say I see trials as pure joy yet either! What I can say is I have learned to ask my loving Abba Father, "what do You want me to learn in this?" I've learned to rejoice in the trial. Admittedly, I have cried literal tears and have asked for relief too in my journey. More times than not I stay focused on the lesson and guarding my joy because my joy is my strength so I can't allow anything to deplete it.
“And be not grieved and depressed, for the joy of the Lord is your strength and stronghold.” (Nehemiah 8:10 AMP)
Just like our physical muscles are developed by stressing them so are our spiritual muscles. Trials help us to locate where we are and they help strengthen our faith. I know I like the results of my workouts and am willing to pay the cost! In the same way I am willing to pay the cost for my spiritual strength and growth.
Spiritual maturity doesn’t just happen! It requires work.
