Saved by Grace - Not Works

Chosen by God!

To inherit salvation, we must depend on God, not on ourselves. We live in a world where works, accomplishments, open doors and define our character. The more good you do the better person you are perceived to be. However god works cannot cause us to inherit eternal life. It is God’s grace that allows us to partake of this gift.

“For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift—not from works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9 HCSB)

If works could do it we would have no need of a Savior. Works can’t do it and we desperately need a Savior. While many believe works is the currency of heaven it is not, faith in Jesus is heaven’s currency. It doesn’t matter how many good works we do on earth it will not impact receiving eternal life. Jesus, not works is the only entry to eternal life.

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6 HCSB)

Once we’ve accepted Jesus as Savior and made Him Lord of our lives, our love will cause us to work for Him, but these works do not strengthen our position where salvation, eternal life is concerned.

Ultimately I think people have been deceived into believing that all they have to do is be a good person and they will spend eternity with Jesus. Sadly, the Gospel message has been watered down and people are not presented with the full truth along with the consequences of their choices. Because of this people are comfortable with depending on their good works rather than depending God’s grace to inherit eternal life.

"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. And not only this, but we also exult in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation." (Romans 5:8-11 NASB)
