Forgiveness of Sins

Writer's picture: Leisa WilkinsLeisa Wilkins

Chosen by God!

“If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just [true to His own nature and promises], and will forgive our sins and cleanse us continually from all unrighteousness [our wrongdoing, everything not in conformity with His will and purpose]. (I John 1:9 AMP)

It begins with admission – God can’t cover what we won’t uncover, admit!

He is faithful: Nothing we do or say changes who God is. His character is His character no matter what.

He forgives: When we admit it, trust Him, and bring it to Him He forgives us. We get a new beginning, a do over!

“Soak me in your laundry and I’ll come out clean, scrub me and I’ll have a snow-white life. God, make a fresh start in me, shape a Genesis week from the chaos of my life.” (Psalm 51:7, 10 MSG)

You know what that means? Creation! Newness! Rebirth! New Life!

"But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness." (I John 1:8 NLT)

I'm thankful for First John 1:9 which cover’s our slips and falls.

"For I do not understand my own actions [I am baffled, bewildered]. I do not practice or accomplish what I wish, but I do the very thing that I loathe [which my moral instinct condemns]." (Romans 7:15 AMP)

The key is to get back up when we fall short and God will meet us right where we are. Give thanks!

Let Us Pray:

Father we know You are faithful to Your Word. Thank You that when we sin we have an Advocate, One who will intercede for us, Jesus Christ. Thank you for Jesus the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Because of this we can fearlessly, confidently, and boldly, come into Your Presence, where we will receive mercy and find grace to help us when we need it most. Thank You for the blood of Jesus, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. We now confess our sins, and by the authority of Your Word, and walk in Your forgiveness and are cleansed. We pray this prayer in faith and on the authority of the Name of Jesus. Amen.

(Prayer is based on: I John 2:1-3, Hebrews 4:16; I John 1:9)
