Chosen by God!
God will not protect us from the consequences of our sinful choices and our disobedience. Nothing happens to us that God does not allow. We must remember that we live in a sin fallen, evil, world which comes with its own challenges and consequences.
I don’t believe that God uses sickness, disease, disasters, etc., to discipline us. Again those things are the result of living in a sin fallen world.
This Scripture greatly impacted my life when I read it and took it to heart:
“So, since Christ suffered in the flesh for us, for you, arm yourselves with the same thought and purpose [patiently to suffer rather than fail to please God]. For whoever has suffered in the flesh [having the mind of Christ] is done with [intentional] sin [has stopped pleasing himself and the world, and pleases God], So that he can no longer spend the rest of his natural life living by [his] human appetites and desires, but [he lives] for what God wills.” (I Peter 4:1-2 AMP)
I am thankful for the conviction of the Holy Spirit that brings sin to mind immediately. I must take care to listen and act so my heart doesn’t become hardened and I no longer hear the conviction of the Holy Spirit. When I know that I’ve sinned I try to be quick to repent. I don’t want to break God’s heart. However, I know I have and will do so again – not on purpose but still it will happen.
I'm thankful for 1 John 1:9, Lamentations 3:23 Romans 8:1-2, forgiveness, new mercies daily, and no condemnation, that allow me to begin again. The promises in these Scriptures are available to believers who are truly repentant and want to begin again. Ultimately I can rest in the assurance of God’s love and forgiveness.
