Chosen by God!"

Even though we walk out of God’s will, we are to take comfort that He always desires to give us another opportunity to follow Him fully. Our minds are so complex! Letting go of the past could be challenging when it is laced with guilt and condemnation. We must remember that God has already taken care of condemnation so the enemy is powerless in this area.

“Therefore, [there is] now no condemnation (no adjudging guilty of wrong) for those who are in Christ Jesus, who live [and] walk not after the dictates of the flesh, but after the dictates of the Spirit.” (Romans 8:1 AMPC)

Learning to embrace God’s love, forgiveness, mercy, and grace is key to letting go of the past and walking in the present.

His mercies are new every day:

"Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” (Lamentations 3:22-24 MSG)

Forgiveness is always available whenever we ask:

"If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just (true to His own nature and promises) and will forgive our sins [dismiss our lawlessness] and [continuously] cleanse us from all unrighteousness [everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought, and action]." (I John 1:9 AMPC)

If the enemy can keep us in the past we are not a threat to him in the present or future. He basically renders us ineffective. The past keeps us self-focused and robs of the opportunity to impact others. As members of the body of Christ we need each other and when one member isn’t functioning it impacts all of us.

Another critical aspect of not being able to let go of the past is the need to want to fix it. Unfortunately we can’t fix it. Instead we must forgive all involved and, with God’s help, move forward. When others try to remind us of our past we must remind them of the blood and this promise from God’s Word:

“Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come!” (II Corinthians 5:17 AMP)
