Sent by God

Chosen by God!

But Moses pleaded with the Lord, “O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now, even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled.” 11 Then the Lord asked Moses, “Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the Lord? 12 Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say.” 13 But Moses again pleaded, “Lord, please! Send anyone else.” (Exodus 4:10-13 NLT)

Moses is pleading with the Lord about his inability to speak well. Some versions say he stammers and stutters. Because of his human frailties Moses is trying to convince God that he can’t do what God has called him to do.

God reminds Moses who is really in control and who knows all. Moses’ insecurities and human frailties were not a surprise to God. After reminding Moses of this He instructs him to go – to do what He has commanded him to do, speak to Pharaoh. Then God assures him that he will be with him and instruct him on what to say. Yet after all this Moses is still afraid to do this and pleads with God to send someone else!

As I read these verses I’m reminded of how many times I question God, reminding Him of my inabilities. I have to shake my head because the reality is He created me so He knows me intimately. More importantly, He knows what He has put in me and the exact circumstances needed to get it out of me. My potential is a seed that He waters, tends, and causes to grow. Even when I don’t understand the why’s I can trust God’s love for me.

We can always think of reasons why we can’t do something, especially for God. I’ve come to learn that God gives us tasks that we can’t do unless we depend on Him. He doesn’t do this to hurt us but to grow us into greater faith, trust and spiritual maturity. This way the end results bring Him glory.

Verse 12 is one of my favorite verses. I pray it before preaching or teaching. I want to go under God’s authority with His words in my mouth and my heart, not my own. The thought of Him filling my mouth, instructing me, and being with me gives me the confidence to do what He’s called me to do. His instruction is better than anything I can come up with and I’m thankful I can depend on Him. Getting me out of the equation guarantees results I couldn’t produce.

Faith Confession:

Lord, thank You for Your patience with me. I love how You listen to my reasoning on matters that will not change Your mind about the assignment You have for me. Thank You that I can express my fears and short comings and You have an encouraging answer for me. Thank You for calling me and sending me to encourage others, and myself, in Your Word. You are an awesome God!

Be Encouraged! ❤
