Chosen by God!
We must differentiate between emotional distress that results from God’s discipline and negative feelings that result from causes beyond our control so we can see God clearly and not blame Him for what is going on. We should be upset when we’ve done something that goes against God or His character, as outlined in His Word. We should also be quick to repent, turn things around, and reestablish a connection with God. While sin disconnects us from God, He provided a path for us to return to Him.
“If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just (true to His own nature and promises) and will forgive our sins [dismiss our lawlessness] and [continuously] cleanse us from all unrighteousness [everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought, and action].” (I John 1:9 AMPC)
This Scripture has helped me put sin in perspective and has given me a desire to not want to break God’s heart:
"SO, SINCE Christ suffered in the flesh for us, for you, arm yourselves with the same thought and purpose [patiently to suffer rather than fail to please God]. For whoever has suffered in the flesh [having the mind of Christ] is done with [intentional] sin [has stopped pleasing himself and the world, and pleases God], so that he can no longer spend the rest of his natural life living by [his] human appetites and desires, but [he lives] for what God wills." (I Peter 4:1-2 Amplified)
Some negative things will happen in our lives that are beyond our control and are not from God. We must remember that we live in a sin fallen world and will experience the results of sin. However, we can be encouraged that this is not our home! Because we are God’s children we will spend eternity with Him.
