Chosen by God,

Please read Mark 4:1-20, The Parable of the Sower.

To help people overcome their sinful attitudes and actions, we should continually expose them to the Word of God. It is only the Word of God that can transform lives. The parable of the sower shows us the power of the Word of God and the obstacles it can face in taking root in our lives. In this parable the seed sown is the Word. Jesus explains the soil, this is our hearts, where the Word falls and how the Word is received. Satan will immediately come to steal the Word from our hearts before it can be firmly rooted. Based on how we anchor the Word in our hearts will determine his success or failure.

The essence of this parable is that we must guard the Word of God by letting it take root in our hearts nurturing it to make sure it grows. We cannot allow the cares and pressures of this world to cause us to become distracted or to give up. Jesus told us we were going to have tribulations and trials in this world but He also said to be of good cheer because He has defeated the world removing its power to harm us. He said we could have His peace through the trials. (John 16:33) We must remember this is available to us always as believers.

We cannot allow worries to choke the Word out of our lives. Instead we must focus on the Word and not our cares trusting God to work it out for our good. (Romans 8:28) We must make the Word our priority, our vital necessity.

Finally we can’t allow material things to become our goal. It’s important to remember that earth is not our home and life here is temporary.

Ultimately our goal must be to cultivate hearts that when we hear the Word, it falls on good ground producing a harvest greater than what was sown. The Word is powerful and in all we do we must remember this. The Word is the foundation and anchor of our faith. The more we hear the Word the stronger our faith becomes. (Romans 10:17) That’s the key to cultivating a heart that is good ground for the Word to grow in and become productive and powerful in our lives.
