Chosen by God!
“Do not [earnestly] remember the former things; neither consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs forth; do you not perceive and know it and will you not give heed to it? I will even make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” (Isaiah 43:18-19 AMPC)
As those who have been forgiven and cleansed by the blood of Christ, we are to forget the past and move forward. It is important that we differentiate between forgetting our past and repressing our past in order to walk peacefully in our present, and future, with Jesus. Forgetting, is letting go and trusting our past has been forgiven and that God no longer remembers it or holds us accountable for it. It is trusting that the blood of Jesus covers the past so the no one, including the enemy, can torment us with our past. Forgetting allows us to walk in the new creation we have become because of Jesus.
“Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come!” (II Corinthians 5:17 AMPC)
When we repress we are using our own strength and abilities to deal with our past and we will always come up short. Repression can cause us to believe we must do something instead of resting in the finished work of Jesus. If not dealt with repression could cause guilt and condemnation and a way for the enemy to rob us of our joy and peace.
In all of this we must remember, once we accept Jesus as our Savior and make Him Lord of our lives we are no longer the person we were. His blood covers our sin and we are seen as righteous by God. It’s all because of Jesus.
“So if the Son liberates you [makes you free men], then you are really and unquestionably free.” (John 8:36 AMPC)
