Chosen by God!
Today is the nineteenth day of my Birthday Month, New Year, and New Season. I have left one year behind and have entered into a new year with new possibilities.
My focus today is on my thoughts!
I was thinking about my thoughts and weighing their impact on the choices I make and how I feel. My thoughts are powerful and they can, and will, change the trajectory of my life! I must be careful to consider what I am thinking about. If it doesn’t line up with the Word of God, won’t bring God glory, or edify others I need to change what I am thinking about. It’s just that important.
My thought life plays a big role in how I act. I really must take my thoughts captive and align them with the Word of God.
“We are destroying sophisticated arguments and every exalted and proud thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought and purpose captive to the obedience of Christ.” (II Corinthians 10:5 AMPC)
I am responsible for what I think about and where I allow my thoughts to take me. Only I can change my thoughts.
The more I think God's thoughts, as outlined in His Word, the more my actions will reflect Him and the more His desires will become my desires. It begins with a thought. Then thoughts become words. Then words become actions. At all times I must be intentional about what I am thinking about! The Word is very clear on what I should think about.
"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." (Philippians 4:8 ESV)
I must measure my thoughts, words, and actions, and then filter the words and actions of others, by the eight characteristics that are listed in Philippians 4:8. And it must meet, and align with, all eight characteristics before it can be something I can even consider!
So it must be:
True
Honorable
Just
Pure
Lovely
Commendable
Excellent
Praiseworthy
I must remember that I need to consciously, intentionally, purposely, think about what I am thinking about. Unattended thoughts become careless words, and careless words become life-changing actions. That’s how powerful my thoughts are! To avoid this I must anchor my thoughts in God’s Word!
Stay tuned, because God isn't finished with me yet!
