Birthday Month Reflections - Day 20!

Chosen by God!

Today is the twentieth day of my Birthday Month, New Year, and New Season. I have left one year behind and have entered into a new year with new possibilities.

My focus today is on commitment!

When I started these posts back on May 1st it was an exciting adventure to share what God was doing in my life. Today, I wondered what I would share and if I even needed to share. I asked myself, who would even miss it if I didn’t post.

While talking to a friend today she just said, you’ll do it because you made a commitment. It was stated as a fact, from her perspective, and then we moved on to other topics. No discussion. That was it! When I heard that it just rang true in my heart. When I say I’ll do something I do it. I keep my word even when keeping it hurts or is inconvenient.

My father instilled this in me. He was teaching me that my word is my bond and my bond is a reflection of my character and my name. He taught me the importance of the integrity of my word and to think carefully before I give it. He also said, if I have to break my word then I need to let the person know BEFORE the event, or as soon as I know, so other arrangements can be made. He also said it needed to be for a very good reason and not just because it’s inconvenient or something better came up. I can’t allow my change of heart to cause a hardship for someone else. He impressed upon me to think carefully before making a commitment to anyone or anything.

So when my friend expressed her belief in what I’d shown my character to be I was encouraged to journey on.

As the daughter of the King I’m reminded that my Abba Father does not break His Word, lie, or change His mind. Since I am created in His image and likeness I have the same ability to not break my word, lie, or change my mind.

These two Scriptures show us a glimpse of God’s character:

“God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?” (Numbers 23:19 NLT)

“For I am the Lord, I do not change; Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.” (Malachi 3:6 NKJV)

For these reasons I can commit my life into His hands for safekeeping. He will not fail me.

“Deep in your hearts you know that every promise of the Lord your God has come true. Not a single one has failed!” (Joshua 23:14b NLT)

God has been committed to me since the very foundation of this world.

"Just as [in His love] He chose us in Christ [actually selected us for Himself as His own] before the foundation of the world, so that we would be holy [that is, consecrated, set apart for Him, purpose-driven] and blameless in His sight. In love He predestined and lovingly planned for us to be adopted to Himself as [His own] children through Jesus Christ, in accordance with the kind intention and good pleasure of His will." (Ephesians 1:4-5 AMPC)

He was so committed to me that He sent Jesus to redeem me so I could be His for eternity. Now that’s commitment!

Stay tuned, because God isn't finished with me yet!

Be Encouraged! ❤
