Encouragement Nugget - Guard Your Faith!

Chosen by God!

You guard your heart by not worrying, prayer, and thanksgiving:

“Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God.” (Philippians 4:6 AMPC)

Thanksgiving - eucharistía, yoo-khar-is-tee'-ah; gratitude; actively, grateful language (to God, as an act of worship):—thankfulness, (giving of) thanks (-giving). (Strong’s Concordance)

The results of not worrying, prayer, and thanksgiving are:

“And God’s peace [shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace] which transcends all understanding shall [b]garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7 AMPC)

Peace - eirḗnē, i-ray'-nay; probably from a primary verb εἴρω eírō (to join); peace (literally or figuratively); by implication, prosperity:—one, peace, quietness, rest, + set at one again. (Strong’s Concordance)

Guard - phrouréō, froo-reh'-o; to be a watcher in advance, i.e. to mount guard as a sentinel (post spies at gates); figuratively, to hem in, protect:—keep (with a garrison). (Strong’s Concordance)

Heart - kardía, kar-dee'-ah; prolonged from a primary κάρ kár (Latin cor, "heart"); the heart, i.e. (figuratively) the thoughts or feelings (mind); also (by analogy) the middle:—(+ broken-)heart(-ed). Denotes the center of all physical and spiritual life; the center and seat of spiritual life (Strong’s Concordance)

Mind - nóēma, no'-ay-mah; from G3539; a perception, i.e. purpose, or (by implication) the intellect, disposition, itself:—device, mind, thought. A mental perception, thought; that which thinks, the mind, thoughts or purposes (Strong’s Concordance)

Guarding your mind, your thought life is an important part to guarding your faith:

“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” (Philippians 4:8 NLT)

The key in this verse is “fix your thoughts!”

Fix - To make stable; to set or establish immovably; To set or place permanently; To make fast; to fasten; to attach firmly; To set or place steadily; to direct, as the eye, without moving it; direct steadily, without wandering (Noah Webster 1828 Dictionary)
