Chosen by God!
“Then Jesus said to His disciples, If anyone desires to be My disciple, let him deny himself [disregard, lose sight of, and forget himself and his own interests] and take up his cross and follow Me [cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying, also]. For whoever is bent on saving his [temporal] life [his comfort and security here] shall lose it [eternal life]; and whoever loses his life [his comfort and security here] for My sake shall find it [life everlasting]. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life [his blessed life in the kingdom of God]? Or what would a man give as an exchange for his [blessed] life [in the kingdom of God]?” (Matthew 16:24-26 AMPC)
We must die to self in order to live for Christ. We can’t pick up, or carry, our own cross tethered to the cares of this world. Instead, we must choose to do things God’s way while trusting His timing. That means we are going to have to say no to some things in order to say yes to Jesus. Our focus must be on Him and not on ourselves. We must have a Kingdom of God, an eternal, perspective for everything we say and do.
This is Kingdom perspective:
“Then Jesus went to work on his disciples. “Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You’re not in the driver’s seat; I am. Don’t run from suffering; embrace it. Follow me and I’ll show you how. Self-help is no help at all. Self-sacrifice is the way, my way, to finding yourself, your true self. What kind of deal is it to get everything you want but lose yourself? What could you ever trade your soul for?” (Matthew 16:24-26 MSG)
Don’t choose to gain everything here on earth, which is temporary, at the cost of losing everything in heaven, which is eternal.
