Chosen by God!
“She asked me this morning if she could gather grain behind the harvesters. She has been hard at work ever since, except for a few minutes’ rest in the shelter.” (Ruth 2:7NLT)
Ruth is taking advantage of the law that God gave in Leviticus 19:9-10 where He instructed the harvesters to leave some grain and grapes so that the poor and foreigners could come behind the harvesters and get food. She asked and was granted permission to do so. Additionally she was diligent about her job only taking a few minutes to rest.
What immediately hit me was the importance of knowing God’s Word. In this time period woman were to be covered by men, either husband or family. Neither Ruth nor Naomi had that covering since each were widowed with no children, yet there was a means of provision available to them. Ruth was intentional about her work and that’s a reminder that we must be intentional about doing a good job at all times. We can’t slack. This Scripture is also a reminder that we are to care for the poor. We must have a giving heart.
FAITH CONFESSION:
Lord thank You for Your provision. You have given clear instructions on what we are to do and how we are to treat people. Help us to have a heart for the poor and the hurting. You have blessed us to be a blessing to others. Let us never lose sight of this.
