Chosen by God!
Then Boaz told him, “Of course, your purchase of the land from Naomi also requires that you marry Ruth, the Moabite widow. That way she can have children who will carry on her husband’s name and keep the land in the family.” “Then I can’t redeem it,” the family redeemer replied, “because this might endanger my own estate. You redeem the land; I cannot do it.” (Ruth 4:5-6 NLT)
Boaz did the honorable thing by letting the other family redeemer know what was going on. He also used wisdom in having that conversation at the town gate with 10 of the elders present to witness the conversation and the outcome. He stated the facts about the land and the requirement of marrying Ruth so the family name would be carried on. I love how Boaz presented his case – giving the lure, if you will, of the land and then the requirement of marriage. Boaz gave all of the facts which allowed the other family redeemer to make an informed decision.
This story is a reminder that we must present all of the facts so people can make informed decisions, especially where a relationship with Christ is concerned. Living a life of integrity is a life God honors and blesses is the best way we can represent Him on earth. We are not to manipulate people to get our way, instead we do everything in love, trusting God with the outcome. The story of Ruth emphasizes just that. Ruth honored her mother-in-law, Naomi, and stood by her, listened to her, and provided for her. A very bleak beginning, coming into town as widows and no prospects, to provision and eventually marriage. If we choose trusting God over how our circumstances may look and what others think our outcome can be victorious also.
PRAYER:
Lord, thank You for ordering my footsteps even when the trail seems treacherous. Thank You that my hope in You will not be disappointed. Thank You for Your love, grace, mercy, and compassion toward me. Continually teach me to hear Your voice and obey even in the midst of situations that seem hopeless. Thank You that You always provide a way out. Thank You, Abba, for the precious blood of Jesus that engrafted me into Your family for eternity. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
