Chosen by God!
“Therefore, my dearly beloved, shun (keep clear away from, avoid by flight if need be) any sort of idolatry (of loving or venerating anything more than God).” (I Corinthians 10:14 AMPC)
Anything that we spend more time on than God can become an idol in our lives, even “good” things. In our world of technology we can get lost in it without realizing how much time we spend on it.
Some of the things in our culture that are not wrong, in themselves, but can begin to take the place of God in our lives are:
Internet (Email, Social Media, Blogs)
Church (When we spend more time doing than being the good things can become idols)
Adoration, Approval, Acceptance (When those things mean more to us than time in the Word and in God’s Presence)
TV, Movies, Concerts, etc.
Money, Job, Career
Marriage, Children, Family
Almost anything can become an idol when we spend more time thinking about it or doing it than spending time with God. When that happens we must consider whether we’ve abandoned our first love, the One Who allows us to have and do all these things. Where does He fit in our day, in our actions, and in our hearts? Sometimes we must take the time to assess our priorities and make any needed adjustments. God first.
