ACTIVELY LISTENING FOR GOD'S VOICE!

“Step out of the traffic! Take a long, loving look at me, your High God, above politics, above everything.” (Psalm 46:10 MSG)

Getting quiet to hear God’s voice is essential to our spiritual growth and to walking in our God ordained purpose. God is not going to compete for our attention. We have to train ourselves to hear His voice. He gives us a promise in His Word that we can, and will, recognize and hear, His voice.

“The sheep that are My own hear and are listening to My voice; and I know them, and they follow Me.” (John 10:27 AMPC)

It’s important that we are intentional about hearing His voice and then obeying what He’s told us to do.

“Go out and stand before me on the mountain,” the Lord told him. And as Elijah stood there, the Lord passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain. It was such a terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And a voice said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” (I Kings 19:11-13 NLT)

We must also remember that God does not necessarily come in the same ways we may be used to hearing from Him. While He is the God of the spectacular and the miraculous, He’s also the God of silence and peace. He wants us to want Him and to do whatever is necessary to seek His face, to hear His heart.

FAITH CONFESSION:

Thank You Lord, for Your reminder that I must get quiet to hear Your voice. I can’t allow the storms of life, or the cares of this world, to distract me from what You are saying and doing. I must shift my focus, keeping my eyes on You. Lord, quiet my mind so I can hear Your voice. I need Your insight and direction to navigate these minefields springing up in my life. Thank You for Your peace as I rest in You, trusting You, relying on You, confident in You, for the outcome that brings You glory. I declare, this will work out for my good and Your glory. Abba, my times are, securely, in Your hands.

“Search for the Lord and for his strength; continually seek him.” (Psalm 105:4 NLT)

Getting quiet before the Lord, shutting down all the distractions seen, and unseen, is key to hearing from Him. You must quiet your mind to tune into His gentle whisper!

Hold on to this promise from the Lord as you actively, and intentionally, seek Him:

“I [the Lord] will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you. Be not like the horse or the mule, which lack understanding, which must have their mouths held firm with bit and bridle, or else they will not come with you.” (Psalm 32:8-9 AMPC)
