When you're going someplace you've never been you would check a map, plot a course, and go. If you follow the directions, you'll get there. If you go off on your own you may, or may not, get there but you will have expended needless time and effort.
I have found that this can apply in spiritual things too. You hear the voice of God giving you a vision/direction. At this point you have a choice - to follow, or to continue going your way. You write the vision He's given you. Then you check His Word so you can begin on a solid foundation building your faith while traveling. Then you stand.
"This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success." (Joshua 1:8 AMPC)
Without vision/direction you won't get where you're going. Without writing the directions down you'll veer off course and may end up someplace you didn't intend to go. Without direction you may just quit only to find out you were a block away! Writing the vision/direction God has given you, and referring to it continually, allows you to assess how you're doing and determine if you're still on track! It also keeps it before your eyes and in your heart as a source of encouragement.
We know that God watches over His Word to perform it - Jeremiah 1:12, We also know that His Word will not return void - Isaiah 55:11, and no word from God shall be without power or impossible of fulfillment - Luke 1:37. If God said it, then it is going to come to pass!
“And the Lord answered me and said, Write the vision and engrave it so plainly upon tablets that everyone who passes may [be able to] read [it easily and quickly] as he hastens by. For the vision is yet for an appointed time and it hastens to the end [fulfillment]; it will not deceive or disappoint. Though it tarry, wait [earnestly] for it, because it will surely come; it will not be behindhand on its appointed day.” (Habakkuk 2:2-3 AMPC)
Then said the Lord to me, "You have seen well, for I am alert and active, watching over My word to perform it." (Jeremiah 1:12 AMPC)
"So shall My word be that goes forth out of My mouth: it shall not return to Me void [without producing any effect, useless], but it shall accomplish that which I please and purpose, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it." (Isaiah 55:11 AMPC)
"For with God nothing is ever impossible and no word from God shall be without power or impossible of fulfillment." (Luke 1:37 AMPC)
