LOVING GOD'S WORD!

“Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Your law.” (Psalm 119:18 AMPC)

The best guideline to studying and interpreting God’s Word accurately is to ask Holy Spirit to be our teacher as we read. Consulting God about His Word will illuminate Scripture for us. We must make Scripture reading a daily part of our lives. The more time we spend in His Presence and in His Word the more His Word will take root in our hearts.

Psalm 119 is filled with Scriptures around how we should handle the Word, the importance of the Word, and the power in the Word. It’s a wonderful chapter that just makes me love God’s Word more and more as it reminds me to be diligent in spending time in His Word.

It’s important that when we read the Word, we don’t allow our bias or belief system to impact God’s intent. It’s also important to put it in context by understanding the times it was written in and what was going on.

"I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you." (Psalm 119:11 NLT)

Finally, we must pair our knowledge and understanding of the Word with seeking God’s direction before making decisions. God never meant for us to be independent of Him in any area. He created us to be totally dependent on Him.

This is my prayer:

Lord open my eyes so I can see You in Your Word. Open my ears so I can hear You in Your Word. Open my heart so I can receive You as I read Your Word.

“You're my place of quiet retreat; I wait for your Word to renew me." (Psalm 119:114 MSG)

I invite you to spend some time in Psalm 119 and watch your love for God's Word grow.

Here are a few Scriptures from Psalm 119 to meditate on:

"Oh, that my ways were directed and established to observe Your statutes [hearing, receiving, loving, and obeying them]!" (Psalm 119:5 NLT)

"As I learn your righteous regulations, I will thank you by living as I should!" (Psalm 119:7 NLT)

"With my whole heart have I sought You, inquiring for and of You and yearning for You; Oh, let me not wander or step aside [either in ignorance or willfully] from Your commandments." (Psalm 119:10 AMPC)

"I will meditate on Your precepts and have respect to Your ways [the paths of life marked out by Your law]. I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word." (Psalm 119:15-16 AMPC)

"Make me understand the way of Your precepts; so shall I meditate on and talk of Your wondrous works." (Psalm 119:27 AMPC)

"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." (Psalm 119:105 AMPC)

"Deliver me from the oppression of man; so will I keep Your precepts [hearing, receiving, loving, and obeying them]. Make Your face shine [with pleasure] upon Your servant, and teach me Your statutes." (Psalm 119:134-135 AMPC)
